6 panic-stricken DU students injured while rushing down stairs
Six students of Dhaka University, including five female students, were injured after rushing down staircases in panic during the third tremor in 36 hours.
Following a 5.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday, another tremor of 3.3 magnitude struck on Saturday morning with its epicentre in Narsingdi. Later on Saturday (22 November), at 6:06pm, a second tremor of 4.3 magnitude was felt.
During the tremor, three students from Shamsunnahar Hall, one from Kuwait Maitree Hall, one from Begum Rokeya Hall, and one from Masterda Surya Sen Hall were injured while running down the stairs.
Israt Jahan Sumona, Literary Affairs Secretary of the Shamsunnahar Hall Students’ Union, suffered a serious leg injury after falling on the stairs. Sources said her leg may be fractured.
On Friday, three students were also injured after jumping from the four-storey Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall. Another student from Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall fractured his leg after jumping. At least 10 people have died in three districts and more than six hundred others have been injured due to the recent quakes.
