60,000 BGB members deployed along border to prevent push-ins
Sixty thousand Border Guard Bangladesh personnel have been deployed along the borders of 26 districts to prevent push-in attempts by the Indian Border Security Force, involving women and children. Never before have so many BGB members been deployed at the border simultaneously. They are guarding the border in four shifts around the clock, with local residents also assisting the border guards.
The BGB has successfully thwarted 21 push-in attempts by the BSF from Wednesday to Saturday over four days. More than 200 individuals were reportedly pushed in these attempts.
The 57th Director General-level conference between BGB and BSF will be held in New Delhi from June 8 to 11. The four-day meeting will discuss the border situation, illegal push-ins, killings of Bangladeshi citizens at the border and overall border management.
BGB has deployed 60,000 personnel to strengthen patrols and intelligence surveillance along the 4,487-kilometre border in 26 districts connected to five Indian states. Plainclothes BGB members have also increased intelligence operations.
The districts where patrols and surveillance have been intensified include Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jashore, Satkhira, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Feni, Moulvibazar, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Khagrachhari, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Cumilla, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Brahmanbaria and Sherpur.
