605 murders in government’s first 100 days: TIB report

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has claimed that crimes, including murder and abduction, have occurred at an alarming rate during the first 100 days of the current government. The anti-corruption watchdog revealed that 605 murders and 196 abductions took place across the country during this period.

These findings were presented at a press conference held at the TIB office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Sunday (June 7).

According to the statistics provided in the report, a total of 605 murders, 294 muggings, 90 robberies, and 196 abductions were recorded during the months of March and April. Additionally, there were 129 attacks on police personnel and 2,214 incidents of theft during the same timeframe. The report also highlighted 3,496 cases of violence against women and children.

Furthermore, the study detailed that between 78 and 102 individuals fell victim to rape, 30 to 36 individuals were victims of gang rape, and 49 to 71 children were subjected to rape during the period under review.

Speaking at the press conference, TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman stated that the law and order situation remained significantly fragile during the government's first 100 days. The report emphasized that incidents of murder, robbery, theft, mugging, rape, violence against women and children, looting, and general anarchy have continued unabated.
