621 educational institutions ordered to halt new student admissions

The Bangladesh Technical Education Board has ordered 621 technical educational institutions across the country to suspend new student admissions. At the same time, these institutions have been directed to submit written explanations within seven working days as to why their teaching permits should not be cancelled or revoked.

The board issued the relevant official order on Thursday (July 23). Among the listed institutions, there are 443 offering the SSC (Vocational) curriculum and 178 offering the Dakhil (Vocational) curriculum.

The order said a prior notice had been published on the website seeking explanations as to why admission activities should not be suspended from the 2026-27 academic year and why teaching permits should not be cancelled or revoked, as these institutions had not admitted students for a long time. The deadline for submissions was July 22. Although some institutions responded, the majority of listed institutions have yet to submit any explanation. Therefore, those institutions that have not yet responded have been given seven working days to submit a written reply.

The board's order further stated that according to the Private Technical Educational Institution Establishment, Teaching and Accreditation Policy-2024, the board has the authority, with government approval, to cancel or revoke the teaching permits of institutions if they fail to meet the conditions of the teaching permit—including student admissions, results, infrastructure, teacher-staff appointments, management committees, furniture, equipment and libraries—within the stipulated time.

The Technical Education Board has also published a list of the 621 institutions under the SSC (Vocational) and Dakhil (Vocational) curricula along with the office order.
