6-member committee formed to investigate bus sinking
The Ministry of Shipping has formed a six-member investigation committee into the incident where a passenger bus fell into the Padma River from a pontoon in the Daulatdia Ghat area of Rajbari. The committee has been asked to investigate the cause of the incident and submit a report within the next three working days.
On Thursday (March 26) evening, Kazi Arif Billah, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Shipping, confirmed the matter to the media.
As per the ministry's instructions, Additional Secretary Md. Muhidul Islam has been made the convener of the committee. The committee includes representatives from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, Naval Police and Rajbari District Administration. If necessary, the committee can include additional members.
The investigation committee has been asked to determine the real cause of the accident, identify those responsible and make recommendations to prevent such accidents in the future.
According to initial information, a passenger bus parked on a pontoon at Daulatdia ferry terminal lost control and fell into the Padma River on Wednesday (March 25) afternoon. Rescue operations have begun.
According to the latest information, 26 bodies have been recovered from the scene so far. Rescue operations are continuing to search for the missing.
