6-time ex-MP Moslem Uddin passes away

Six-time former MP and veteran politician Moslem Uddin has passed away. He was a former Awami League MP from Mymensingh-6 (Phulbaria) constituency. He was 88 years old at the time of his death.

He breathed his last around 11:30am while undergoing treatment at the Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in the capital on Saturday (May 2).

According to family sources, Moslem Uddin had been suffering from old-age-related ailments for a long time. When his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to the hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment.

In his political career, he was the former president of the Fulbaria Upazila Awami League, a former member of the Constituent Assembly and the former president of the Mymensingh District Bar Association. He was elected as a member of parliament six times in his long career.

The family said that his first funeral prayer was held after Zohr at the Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Later, the body will be taken to his native place, Mymensingh.

Separate funerals will be held at the Mymensingh District Bar Association, the Fulbaria Government High School grounds and the local orphanage grounds on Sunday (May 3). He will then be buried in the family graveyard.

His death has brought an atmosphere of mourning to the local political arena.
