7 Awami League women activists held during snap rally in Dhanmondi
Police have arrested seven leaders and activists of the Awami League women's wing and the driver of the microbus carrying them during a snap rally in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
They were arrested around 6:15 am on Friday. Assistant Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman confirmed the matter.
According to police, 20-25 women brought out a rally in front of Star Kebab restaurant on Road 2 in Dhanmondi early morning, holding banners and placards reading 'Women of Bengal, Lovers of Mujib'. They proceeded towards Road 3 chanting various slogans.
A patrol team from Dhanmondi Model Police Station reached the spot and arrested seven activists of the Awami League women's wing. Others fled the scene.
Police said a microbus used to bring the activists to the rally was seized from the spot, and the driver was also arrested.
Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman said legal action is being taken against those arrested.
