7 die from measles, measles-like symptoms, 324 deaths in 52 days
As the measles outbreak continues in the country, seven more children have died in the last 24 hours. Of these, five were with measles symptoms and two deaths were confirmed to be due to measles, the Directorate General of Health Services said.
This information was given in the latest report of the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday (May 6).
According to the report, the total number of deaths due to measles and its symptoms in the country in the last 52 days has increased to 324. Of these, 268 were with measles symptoms and 56 deaths were confirmed to be due to measles.
The Directorate General of Health Services said that of the seven children who died in the last 24 hours, two each died in Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions and one child each in Sylhet, Khulna and Barisal divisions.
During this period, 1054 children have been admitted to various hospitals in the country with measles symptoms. At the same time, measles has been detected in the bodies of 373 children. Of these, 182 were identified in Sylhet division and 122 in Dhaka division. On the other hand, 855 people have recovered and been discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, new vaccine supplies have been strengthened to deal with the situation. State news agency BSS reported that a new consignment of 10 types of vaccines, including measles-rubella and oral polio, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday afternoon. Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain received the vaccine consignment at the airport.
Health experts say that it is important to strengthen vaccination activities quickly to prevent the spread of measles and ensure proper treatment of those infected.
