7 lawyers to face contempt hearing on Feb 12
The hearing for the contempt of court petition against seven pro BNP lawyers, who held a press conference and rally against two judges of the Appellate Division, has been scheduled by the Supreme Court. As the Chief Justice was not present in the country at the time, a five-member Appellate Division Bench, led by Senior Judge Borhan Uddin, has decided that the hearing will take place on February 12.
On January 15, the seven lawyer leaders appeared in the Appellate Division regarding the press conference and rally. These leaders include former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Fahima Nasreen Munni, Advocate Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Advocate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan, and Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal. Monday (29 January) was fixed for hearing the contempt of court petition against them.
Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan, leading the Appellate Division, has set this day specifically to conduct the hearing. In response to their actions of holding a press conference and organizing a rally against the two judges of the Appellate Division on November 15, the Appellate Division has summoned seven pro BNP lawyers.
They have been summoned to provide an explanation for their actions and are required to appear in court on January 15. Additionally, they have been strictly instructed to adhere to the High Court's order, which prohibits any form of procession within all court premises, including the Supreme Court.
