7 to die, 7 to life in Jamalpur uncle-nephew murder case
A court in Jamalpur has sentenced seven people to death and seven others to life imprisonment in a high-profile case over the murder of an uncle and his nephew.
Jamalpur Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Mohammad Nezam Uddin delivered the verdict on Thursday afternoon (August 20).
Public Prosecutor Advocate Didarul Islam Didar confirmed the matter.
According to the case details, an enmity developed between the victims and the accused over a Union Parishad election in 2016 in Gajaria area of Madarganj upazila. The dispute later escalated, resulting in the killing of the uncle and nephew.
After nearly a decade of proceedings, the court delivered the verdict following testimony from 60 witnesses. All 14 accused in the case were convicted, with seven receiving the death penalty and the remaining seven sentenced to life imprisonment.
