Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has recovered 76 bhori (887.5 grams) of gold in three separate operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Three individuals have been detained on suspicion of involvement in gold smuggling.

According to a press release issued by the APBn, the first operation took place at 9:20am on Sunday at the roundabout between the departure and arrival terminals, where 293.50 grams of gold jewelry—worth approximately Tk 36.1 lakh—were recovered from a passenger identified as Md. Saleh Faisal, 27.

In a second raid around 1:45pm near the media corner of the arrival terminal, officials seized 395 grams of gold jewelry, valued at approximately Tk 46.21 lakh, from another passenger, Monirul Islam, 34.

Earlier, at 10:20am, a third suspect, Masum Rana, 32, was detained at the arrival terminal. He was found carrying 199 grams of gold jewelry. Rana was later produced before the airport’s executive magistrate for legal proceedings.

Initial interrogation revealed that the three arrestees were part of an organized smuggling syndicate. They had been working as local receivers of smuggled gold brought in by international passengers while evading customs duties.

Speaking on the incident, APBn Operational Commander Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mozammel Haque stated, “We remain vigilant at all times to curb smuggling and criminal activities in and around the airport. The Airport Armed Police maintains a strict stance against gold smuggling.”
