8 JnU Chhatra Dal leaders, activists expelled over campus clash

The Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has expelled eight leaders and activists of its Jagannath University (JnU) unit following a clash between rival factions on campus, while another joint convener was served a show-cause notice over alleged organisational indiscipline.

The decisions were announced in separate notices signed by JCD central office secretary Mohammad Jahangir Alam on Sunday (September 20).

Those expelled are JnU unit Joint Convener Sabuj Shahriar and members Mohammad Israfil Islam Rafil, Masum Reza, Yasin Saif, Imran Hossain Emon, Moniruzzaman Monir and Mohammad Souravur Rahman Sujon, along with student leader Kabya Saha. The seven office-bearers were removed from their organisational posts, while Kabya Saha was expelled from the organisation’s primary membership.

Joint Convener Nahian Bin Haque Anik was ordered to appear at the JCD central office within 24 hours and submit a written explanation over alleged violations of organisational discipline.

The notice said permanent disciplinary action could follow depending on his explanation.

Earlier on Sunday, supporters of JnU JCD Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin and Nahian were involved in several rounds of clashes and chases over an internal dispute, leaving at least four students injured, according to reports.

JnU JCD Convener Mehedi Hasan Himel said the unit would take action against anyone involved in disorder regardless of their position, stressing the organisation’s commitment to maintaining a stable campus environment.
