8 out of 10 advisers to PM get portfolios
Eight of the members of the Advisory Council appointed to the ranks of ministers and state ministers in the new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have been given portfolios.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Friday (February 20) to assign these responsibilities. Earlier, 10 advisers were appointed on Tuesday.
According to the notification, five advisers with ministerial rank have been given important responsibilities. Among them, Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed have been appointed as political advisers to the Prime Minister.
Md. Ismail Zabiullah has been given the responsibility of public administration.
Economist Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir has been made an adviser to the Ministry of Finance.
Three advisers with the rank of state minister have been given the responsibility of multiple ministries. Among them, Brigadier General (Retd.) Shamsul Islam has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense.
Mahdi Amin has been given the responsibility of four ministries - Education, Primary and Mass Education, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Labor and Employment.
Rehan Asif Asad has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology, and Science and Technology.
Although 10 advisers were appointed last Tuesday, the portfolios of eight were finalized today. The government's policy-making circles believe that the distribution of these new portfolios will further accelerate the administrative activities of the relevant ministries. The responsibilities of the remaining two advisers may be announced later.
