9 die with measles symptoms, death toll reaches 1,096

Nine more people have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, 101 people have died from confirmed measles and 995 with measles symptoms in the current year. In total, the number of deaths from measles and its symptoms has reached 1,096.

The information was provided in the regular health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday, September 27.

The bulletin stated that 1,341 new patients with measles and measles symptoms were admitted to various hospitals across the country in the 24 hours from 8am on Saturday. Among them, 442 were admitted in Dhaka division, 30 in Rajshahi, 153 in Sylhet, 338 in Chattogram, 127 in Barishal, 122 in Mymensingh, 93 in Khulna and 36 in Rangpur.

During this period, four people died with measles symptoms in Dhaka division alone. The bulletin did not separately mention how many such deaths occurred in other divisions of the country.

According to DGHS data, a total of 166,310 patients with measles symptoms were admitted to various hospitals across the country from March 15 to September 27. Among them, 159,519 were discharged from hospital after recovery.

During the same period, the number of suspected measles patients in the country reached 188,041. Among them, measles was confirmed in 21,212 people.

According to DGHS statistics, the number of hospital admissions and deaths with measles symptoms is still at a significant level. Health authorities have continued monitoring the public health situation regarding measles, considering the overall situation of the current year along with the figures of new patients and deaths in the last 24 hours.
