9th pay scale draft sent to BG Press; gazette to be issued Sunday

The draft of the ninth National Pay Scale has been sent to the Bangladesh Government Press (BG Press) for printing. After completing the necessary formalities, the draft will go to the Ministry of Law for vetting via the Ministry of Finance. The new pay scale will then be published with a government order or SRO number.

A senior official of the Ministry of Finance confirmed the information on Thursday (September 3). He said the pay scale draft was sent to BG Press on Wednesday. From there, it will return to the Ministry of Finance following the prescribed process and then complete vetting by the Ministry of Law .

The official said the government wants to publish the gazette as soon as vetting and other formalities are completed. No deliberate delay will be made in publishing the gazette. However, the time required to follow government rules and procedures is being taken .

Meanwhile, the government is also preparing to arrange the necessary funds to implement the new pay scale. Plans are in place on how the additional expenditure required for the new salary structure will be met.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani has said the necessary funds for the new pay scale had already been considered in the Medium-Term Budget Framework (MTBF). Therefore, the expenditure required for the new salary structure will not create any sudden financial pressure on the government .

He said the government does not prepare the budget solely based on the income-expenditure of a single fiscal year. Rather, a forecast of potential revenue and expenditure for several years is also included in the budget planning. The potential cost of the new pay scale was also considered earlier as part of that long-term financial planning.
