A new constitution, Constituent Assembly election needed: Nahid Islam
Observing that the country needs a democratic constitution, National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said we need to build a new republic and that requires a Constituent Assembly election to formulate the new constitution.
He said this while talking to reporters after paying tribute to the brave martyrs by placing flowers at the National Memorial in Savar on Tuesday (March 4).
Nahid said, “We will build a new Bangladesh by fulfilling the aspirations of all struggles, including the 2024 mass uprising. Although we got an independent state through the Liberation War, the country’s sovereignty is under threat due to fascism.”
He said that the youth will form the state and the organisational activities of the National Citizen Party will be expanded.
Stating that the trial of the July Uprising should be held quickly, he said, "Our promise in the mass uprising was that those involved in this murder and who have committed various atrocities in the last 15 years will be tried on the soil of Bengal. Our appeal to the interim government will be that the people of Bangladesh want to see this trial as soon as possible.”
We want to see the reform programme that the National Consensus Commission has after the trial, he added.
The central leaders of the NCP entered the National Memorial at around 7 am on Tuesday and paid tribute to the martyrs by laying flowers. At that time, all the leaders and activists including the party's convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain were present.
