A political group exploiting religion for political gain: Salahuddin
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday accused a political groups of misleading the public by exploiting religion, saying they promise heaven in exchange for votes while ignoring people’s real-life needs.
Speaking at a BNP-organised discussion titled “Plan for Building Bangladesh” at the Krishibid Institute in the capital's Khamarbari, he said the party opposes such religious manipulation and focuses instead on economic freedom, welfare, and clear development plans for the country.
Salahuddin also criticised the Awami League, alleging that Sheikh Hasina established one-party rule under the guise of “masked democracy” and undermined electoral and democratic norms in 2014, 2018, and 2024.
Addressing BNP leaders and student wing members, he stressed the importance of clearly communicating the party’s agenda to the public and fulfilling citizens’ expectations. He highlighted BNP’s historic role in restoring multi-party democracy, citing contributions from Ziaur Rahman, the 1990 anti-autocracy movement, the 1991 parliamentary system, and the 1996 caretaker government.
Salahuddin further condemned foreign commentators for misrepresenting Bangladesh’s realities and expressed concern over rising political character assassination and online abuse, calling for a focus on the slogan “Bangladesh First” promoted by BNP leader Tarique Rahman.
