A political quarter is trying to belittle women: Mirza Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that a political quarter is trying to confine women to their homes and belittle them.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the 'Best Self-reliant Women Honour' ceremony organised by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at Agargaon in the capital on Monday afternoon, March 9.
The minister said there is a political quarter in the country that wants to hinder women's progress and harbours a mentality of keeping them confined at home. He stated that no country can move forward on the path of development by leaving half its population behind.
Mirza Fakhrul further said that in the changed political reality, BNP has received a mandate to work for the welfare of the people. He noted that women's empowerment has been given special importance in the party's election pledges.
He said initiatives have been taken to implement step by step the plans for change in various sectors of the country that Tarique Rahman has spoken about.
The minister expressed hope that although they have taken responsibility amid a devastated state system and weak economy, the situation will soon turn around positively.
At the event, nine self-reliant women associated with LGED-implemented projects in various parts of the country were honoured.
