Abul Sarker granted bail in blasphemy case
The High Court granted bail to Baul singer Abul Sarker, who was arrested over allegations of blasphemy.
A bench comprising Justice Atowar Rahman and Justice Sagir Hossain passed the order on Monday (April 6).
The controversy began on November 4 at the Khala Pagli fair in Jabra, Ghiour Upazila, Manikganj, where Sarker allegedly made remarks deemed offensive to religion during a folk music performance.
A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, sparking public outcry.
On the night of November 19, Sarker was taken into custody by a Manikganj DB police team during another musical event in Madaripur.
Subsequently, Mufti Md. Abdullah filed a case against him at Ghiour Police Station.
Following his arrest, Sarker was sent to prison through the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Manikganj.
The High Court’s bail order allows him temporary freedom pending trial.
