SI Sheikh Abzalul Haque, prime approver in the Ashulia case involving the burning of six bodies, apologised to the July victims’ families of the July uprising at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

On Wednesday (November 19), after recording his testimony, he expressed regret for being unable to prevent the burning of the martyrs in Ashulia on August 5.

A two-member bench of Tribunal-2, led by Retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid, recorded his statement.

Abzalul testified against 16 accused, including ex-MP Saiful Islam, over seven killings and six bodies burned in Ashulia.

In his statement, Abzalul said, "The then-OC Syed and ASI Bishwajit had burned six bodies with petrol."

As the 23rd witness in the trial, Abzalul detailed the events of August 5, 2023. Though he was not present when the bodies were burned, he learned on August 15 while surrendering his issued weapon that the deceased had been set on fire.
