ACC files corruption cases against Saber Hossain Chowdhury and his wife

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Awami League lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury and his wife Rehana Chowdhury, accusing them of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income, concealing assets, engaging in irregular transactions, and laundering money.

The cases were lodged on October 15 (Wednesday) under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947, and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012, along with Section 109 of the Penal Code.

At a press briefing held at the ACC headquarters, Akhtar Hossain, Director General (Prevention), said that the couple acquired wealth amounting to Tk 12.25 crore and Tk 26.97 crore, inconsistent with their known sources of income, in addition to engaging in suspicious and irregular financial transactions.

He further stated that during the investigation, evidence of Tk 150.88 crore in suspicious and irregular transactions was also found against Rehana Chowdhury.
