ACC gets full body after 5 months, Justice Asaduzzaman new chairman
After over five months, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has regained its full commission. The government has formed a new commission with retired Appellate Division judge A K M Asaduzzaman as chairman. Former secretary Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and former NBR tax commissioner Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan have been appointed as commissioners.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Monday, August 17, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, stating that the new chairman and two commissioners have been appointed under the relevant provisions of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, effective immediately in the public interest.
New Chairman Justice A K M Asaduzzaman retired from the Appellate Division on February 28, 2026. He served as a High Court judge for a long time before being elevated to the Appellate Division on March 25, 2025.
Commissioner Dr Jahangir Alam Khan served in various important positions in the administration before retiring as secretary. Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, a former NBR tax commissioner, also served as chairman of the Financial Reporting Council under the Ministry of Finance during the interim government.
On March 3, the then ACC chairman and two commissioners resigned. After the President accepted their resignations, the commission effectively became vacant. A selection committee was later formed with the Cabinet Secretary as member secretary to form the new commission.
According to the ACC Act, the President appoints the chairman and commissioners based on the selection committee's recommendations. The new commission has now returned the anti-corruption constitutional body to full operation with a three-member commission, including the chairman. Under the law, the chairman will receive the salary, allowances and status of an Appellate Division judge, while commissioners will have the same benefits as High Court judges.
