ACC issues notice to former ASP Monirul seeking wealth statement

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to issue separate wealth statement notices to former Additional Superintendent of Police Md Monirul Islam and his wife Zakia Parvin over allegations of discrepancies between their assets and income. The ACC inquiry found that the two had assets and expenditures worth around Tk 3 crore that did not match their acceptable income.

The decision was taken at the ACC head office on Thursday, September 16. ACC Deputy Director Md Aktarul Islam said the decision was taken based on a report submitted by inquiry officer Assistant Director Piyas Pal.

According to the ACC inquiry report, movable and immovable assets worth a total of Tk 1,96,93,225 were found in the name of Monirul Islam. Of this, immovable assets amounted to Tk 63,58,750 and movable assets to Tk 1,33,34,475.

Additionally, a total of Tk 40,78,128 was found as his family and lifestyle expenses. As a result, his total acquired and consumed assets, including assets and expenses, stood at Tk 2,37,71,353.

However, the inquiry found Monirul Islam's acceptable or legal income to be Tk 2,31,91,980. Accordingly, the ACC inquiry found his wealth beyond known sources of income to be Tk 5,79,373.

On the other hand, the ACC found assets worth a total of Tk 38,08,500, including movable and immovable, in the name of Monirul Islam's wife Zakia Parvin. Of this, immovable assets amounted to Tk 10,28,500 and movable assets to Tk 27,80,000.

An additional Tk 7,17,500 was found as Zakia Parvin's family and other expenses. As a result, her total acquired and consumed assets, including assets and expenses, stood at Tk 45,26,000. Against this, evidence of legal income was found for only Tk 12,40,000.

The ACC inquiry found a discrepancy of Tk 32,86,000 between her assets and expenses and her acceptable income. According to the commission's calculation, this amount is inconsistent with the source of income and has been identified as wealth beyond known sources of income.

In this situation, the ACC has decided to issue separate wealth statement notices to further verify the acquired assets, family lifestyle expenses and acceptable sources of income of Monirul Islam and Zakia Parvin.
