ACC raids CU over alleged recruitment irregularities
The Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC has conducted a raid at Chittagong University’s administrative building over allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and staff.
The operation began at around 11:30am on Wednesday, January 14, led by ACC Assistant Director Sayed Alam. ACC Chattogram Deputy Director Subel Ahmed confirmed the raid.
At the university’s 565th syndicate meeting held on January 9, a decision was taken to appoint 153 people, including teachers, officers and staff. The appointments sparked controversy after Mahira Khan, daughter of Pro-Vice Chancellor Shamim Uddin Khan, was appointed as a lecturer.
According to university sources, 44 teachers were appointed in nine departments including computer science and engineering, EEE, zoology and HRM. The syndicate also approved recommendations to recruit 100 third- and fourth-class employees and nine officers, including network technicians, computer operators and office assistants. The ACC operation is ongoing.
