ACC team begins asset inventory at ex-land minister's Gulshan flats
A team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday (July 19) entered two Gulshan apartments owned by former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed to prepare an inventory of assets, acting on a court order.
The operation began at 10:30am under the supervision of an executive magistrate.
ACC Deputy Director Md Mashiuur Rahman said the commission is carrying out the court's directive to document the assets and hand over the apartments to a court-appointed receiver.
The two flats, located on the seventh floor of a building on Road-66 in Gulshan, were placed under receivership following a court order. Earlier this month, the ACC appointed the director of its Asset Management Unit as receiver, assigning responsibility for the custody, management and maintenance of the properties.
According to the commission, the apartments were locked and the inventory process is being conducted in the presence of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Niloy Rahman, who is serving as the executive magistrate during the operation.
The ACC launched an investigation into Saifuzzaman Chowdhury after the political transition in August 2024, later filing multiple cases over alleged corruption and illicit wealth.
The former minister has also faced a series of court-ordered asset seizures. On February 26, a court ordered the attachment of 518 flats and apartments linked to him in the United Kingdom. Earlier, on January 13, another court ordered the seizure of 330 houses, flats and apartments across eight countries, including the United Arab Emirates, and froze investments in two US-based companies.
According to the ACC, the combined value of the seized overseas assets and investments is estimated at Tk 23.21 billion.
Saifuzzaman Chowdhury served as state minister for land from 2014 to 2018 and as land minister from 2019 to 2023.
