Accidents claim 23 lives in 18 hours nationwide
At least 23 people have died in road, rail and other accidents across the country in the last 18 hours.
These fatalities occurred in separate accidents in Cumilla, Habiganj, Feni, Natore, Narail and Jhenaidah from Saturday (March 21) afternoon to Sunday (March 22) morning.
On March 21, in Cumilla, a passenger bus of 'Mamun Paribahan' collided with a Chattogram-bound train in Jangalia area of Comilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila at 3am, killing 12 people on the spot. The bus was crushed by the train while crossing a railway crossing.
Meanwhile, at 3:45am on Sunday, three more people lost their lives in a three-way collision between a bus, ambulance and motorcycle in Rampur area of Feni on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Four people, including a woman and a child, were killed when a speeding pickup van fell into a ditch in Madhabpur, Habiganj on Sunday (March 22) morning. The Dhaka-bound pickup truck, which was carrying furniture, was involved in the accident while trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle.
An engineer named Zulfikar died in a road accident in Baraigram upazila of Natore.
In addition, three more people were killed in separate accidents in Narail, Jhenaidah and Natore. Among them, a young man lost his life in a motorcycle accident while out for a walk on Eid, a teenager died after falling from a mosque and a helper died after being thrown from the bumper of a truck.
