Enforced Disappearance Cases

13 Army Officers urge virtual attendance before ICT

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today has conducting hearings in two separate enforced disappearance cases from the previous Awami League government era, involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several current and former army officers, linked to the Taskforce Interrogation (TFI) and Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC).

Thirteen army officers are currently in custody in these cases. For the next hearing, their lawyers have requested virtual attendance instead of physical presence.

The application was submitted on Sunday (November 23) at the Registrar’s office of the International Crimes Tribunal by lawyer Maidul Islam Polok on behalf of some defendants.

The hearings are being conducted before a three-member bench of Tribunal-1, chaired by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar.

Reports on the cancellation of arrest warrants and the appointment of state defense for absconding accused may be considered.

The 13 army officers currently in custody who will be produced before the court are: Brig. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam, former RAB Additional DG, Brig. Gen. Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, Brig. Gen. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Brig. Gen. Md. Mahabub Alam, Brig. KM Azad, Col. Abdullah Al Momen, Col. Anwar Latif Khan (on LPR), Lt. Col. Md. Moshiur Rahman, former Director of RAB Intelligence Wing, Lt. Col. Saiful Islam Sumon, Lt. Col. Md. Sarwar Bin Kashem, Maj. Gen. Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, former DGFI Director, Brig. Gen. Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Tanvir Mazhar Siddiqui.
