Acting President pays tribute at graves of Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia

Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Sunday (July 26) paid tribute to the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.

He placed wreaths at the graves around 12:30pm, shortly after paying homage at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar earlier in the day.

State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain accompanied the Acting President during the visit.

Security was tightened in and around Zia Udyan, with a large number of law enforcement personnel deployed to ensure safety during the programme.

Hafiz Uddin Ahmed assumed the responsibilities of Acting President under the Constitution following the resignation of Mohammed Shahabuddin on July 24, who stepped down citing health reasons.

After taking office, he said he would perform presidential duties from Bangabhaban while continuing to reside at the Speaker's official residence within the Parliament complex.
