Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal meets UNOPS delegation at Parliament
A high-level delegation from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) held a courtesy meeting with the Acting Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Barrister Kaiser Kamal. The discussion focused on further expanding the ongoing cooperation between Bangladesh and UNOPS in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday (July 26). The delegation was led by Sudhir Muralidharan, UNOPS Country Manager for Bangladesh and Bhutan .
During the meeting, the Acting Speaker was invited to attend the 'National Advocacy Programme on SDG Localisation' scheduled for August 8 as the chief guest. The delegation formally handed over the invitation, stating that the event would be held at the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal accepted the invitation and expressed his gratitude to the UNOPS delegation for the invitation.
The Acting Speaker said former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia played a vital role in strengthening the foundation of women's education and political empowerment in Bangladesh. He added that, building on that legacy, the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is undertaking various timely initiatives to establish equitable good governance and develop efficient and effective leadership, which aligns with the implementation of the UN-mandated SDGs.
The UNOPS delegation praised the role of the Jatiya Sangsad in implementing the SDGs at the local level and expressed interest in continuing joint efforts with the Bangladesh government on this front in the future.
