Dhaka Metropolitan Police has implemented extensive security and traffic management measures to ensure smooth travel for people heading home for Eid-ul-Azha and to ensure the safety of capital residents. DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said that action is being taken immediately upon receiving complaints of excess fare.

The DMP commissioner made the remarks after visiting the Gabtali bus terminal and Gabtali cattle market on Monday morning, May 25.

Special Metropolitan Magistrates are working at every terminal, and BRTA vigilance teams are also on the ground, taking action as soon as complaints are received, the commissioner said.

Special Metropolitan Magistrates are conducting mobile courts to prevent passenger harassment, excess fare collection and overloading. Coordination with highway police is ongoing to keep Dhaka's entry and exit points free from traffic jams.

A tight security ring has been created around each cattle market designated by the two city corporations. Each market has visible police presence, a sub-control room and a watchtower. With assistance from Bangladesh Bank, each cattle market has counterfeit note detection machines.

Special teams of plainclothes police, including DB, are deployed 24 hours to prevent counterfeit notes and the activities of 'ganja parties' and 'malom parties'.

Immediate action is also being taken against unfit vehicles and those parked indiscriminately on highways, he said.
