Actor Siddique granted 3-day remand in murder case
A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for actor Siddiqur Rahman in a murder case filed over the death of Parvez Bepari, an employee of a furniture shop, during the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August.
Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ziadur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday (September 3) after hearing arguments from both the state and the defence.
On the day, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Samiul Islam of Gulshan Police Station, applied for a 10-day remand for the accused. The defence, however, pleaded for the cancellation of the remand petition and sought bail.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and granted the three-day remand order.
In the remand petition, it was stated that the accused was present in front of the Suvastu Nazar Valley in Shahjadpur in a very strategic manner and financed the incident to deter the anti-discrimination students and the public. As he is the 223rd accused in the first information report (FIR), it is known that the incident of this case occurred under his leadership.
