Additional DIG temporarily suspended over DJ party incident
Abdullah Al Zahir, additional deputy inspector general (additional DIG) of police, has been temporarily suspended on charges of consuming drugs and organising a DJ party at his residence in Bhatara of the capital. He has also been attached to the Police Special Training School in Betbunia of Rangamati.
This decision was announced in a gazette signed by Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Manjur Morshed Chowdhury on Saturday (October 31).
According to the gazette, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) North Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a raid at Abdullah Al Zahir’s residence in the Police Housing residential area under Bhatara police station on October 19. The DB said illegal drug consumption and a DJ party were going on at the house.
Cannabis, yaba, alcohol and yaba consumption materials were seized during the raid. A total of 85 people, including 26 women, were arrested at that time. The incident was widely discussed in various media and on social media.
The gazette said the incident created a negative perception about the police among the public and damaged the image of Bangladesh Police in the public eye. Such activities are against etiquette, inefficient and contrary to departmental rules and discipline.
In this situation, Abdullah Al Zahir has been temporarily suspended from October 25 under Rule 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. He will receive subsistence allowance as per rules during the period of temporary suspension.
