Admission to class XI starts on September 2, no admission test

The Education Ministry has issued the guidelines for admission to class XI in the 2026-27 academic year. Online applications for admission will start from September 2. Students will be selected on the basis of the results of SSC and equivalent examinations. No college will be able to take separate selection or admission tests.

The ‘Guidelines for Admission to Class XI’ was issued from the Government College-1 Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry on Monday (August 24). Detailed instructions have been given in it regarding eligibility for admission, selection of group, quota, merit list, fees and online admission process.

It has been said in the instructions that students who have passed under any education board of the country and Bangladesh Open University in the year of publication of the results of SSC or equivalent examination and the previous two years will be able to apply for admission to class XI. Besides, in the case of students who have passed from any foreign board or equivalent institution, eligibility for admission will be considered after determination of the standard of the certificate by the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

It has further been said that students who have passed from the science group will be able to apply for admission to any of the science, humanities and business studies groups. Students of the humanities group will be able to apply to humanities and business studies and students of the business studies group will be able to apply to business studies and humanities groups.

Besides, students who have passed from all the science, humanities and business studies groups will be able to apply to any one of the Islamic studies, home science and music groups.

Opportunity for selection of group has also been kept for students who have passed from madrasa and technical education boards.

Seven per cent seats quota

Ninety-three per cent seats of the colleges will remain open for all and students will be selected for these seats on the basis of merit.

One per cent seats will remain reserved for the children of officers and employees working in the Education Ministry and one per cent for the children of officers and employees working in the departments and agencies under the ministry. This two per cent quota will be applicable in the educational institutions of metropolitan, divisional and district headquarters.

Besides, five per cent seats will remain reserved for the sons and daughters of freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters. In total seven per cent seats are remaining reserved for specific categories.

Applicants under the freedom fighter quota will have to submit the attested copy of the relevant proof or gazette and show the original copy at the time of admission. If eligible candidates are not found these seats will have to be filled from the merit list. No seat can be kept vacant. However, this quota will be applicable only for the 2026-27 academic year.

How merit list will be determined in case of equal GPA

In the case of students obtaining the same GPA the merit list will be determined on the basis of the total marks obtained.

In the science group if the marks are equal the marks obtained in general mathematics and higher mathematics or biology will be considered. If equality still remains the marks of English, physics and chemistry will be considered one after another.

In the case of humanities and business studies groups if the total marks are equal the marks obtained in English, mathematics and Bangla will be considered one after another.

Students of own institution will get priority

The own students of school and college or equivalent institutions will get the opportunity of admission on priority basis in their respective groups subject to the qualifications fixed by the institution. After ensuring their admission other students can be admitted to the remaining seats.

However, all admission activities of these institutions will have to be completed online.

Admission to be completed within 30 working days

All activities of admission to class XI will have to be completed within the next 30 working days after the publication of the results of SSC and equivalent examinations. For this the education boards will announce the schedule of application, result publication, admission and start of classes.

Applications for admission to class XI in all approved colleges and equivalent institutions will have to be made online. No institution will be able to admit students in excess of the seats approved by the board.

Private colleges will have to publish the list of admission fees, monthly tuition fees and other expenses on the notice board and website before the start of admission. No money in excess of the board-approved fees can be taken.

In the case of students with special needs arrangement has been asked to be made for waiver of fees as far as possible. At the same time the original academic transcript of any student cannot be withheld.
