Advisory Council of Interim Government holding meeting
The Advisory Council of the Interim Government holding a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
The meeting is underway at the Chief Adviser's office in Tejgaon on Thursday (November 13).
The meeting is scheduled to discuss the method of implementing the July National Charter or the constitutional reform proposal. Professor Yunus will address the nation after the discussion.
His speech will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV), BTV News and BTV World.
The National Consensus Commission submitted two alternative recommendations to the Interim Government on October 28 for the implementation of the July National Charter. One states that a special order will be issued to implement the constitutional reform proposal and a referendum will be held on its basis. If the proposal is passed in the referendum, the next parliament will reform it as the Constitutional Reform Council within 270 days. If the work is not completed within the stipulated time, the proposal will automatically be added to the constitution.
The other option is to complete the reforms within 270 days, but there is no mention of what will happen if it fails. The government has been given the responsibility of setting the date for the referendum.
