Afsana Begum reappointed as Director of National Book Centre

Writer Afsana Begum has rejoined as Director of the National Book Centre, resuming her official duties on Sunday (May 17), according to the institution’s administrative official (additional charge) Md. Shafiqur Islam.

He confirmed that the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on May 14 appointing her to the post on a one-year contractual basis.

Afsana Begum had earlier been appointed to the same position in September 2024 during the interim government’s tenure for a two-year term. However, her appointment was cancelled in January before the completion of her tenure.

The latest government notification stated that the appointment will take effect from the date of joining, subject to her resignation from any other professional, business, or public/private institutional engagements. Other terms and conditions of the contract will be determined through an agreement.

Officials said she formally assumed charge at the National Book Centre on Sunday (May 17).
