After a sunny day, the sky over the capital suddenly turned dark on Friday afternoon, June 12, followed by rain in various areas. The downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning in some places, brought relief to residents.

Rainfall was reported in Rampura, Banshree, Malibagh, Maghbazar, Bailey Road, Kakrail, Shantinagar, Motijheel, Paltan, Kamalapur, Shahjahanpur, Karwan Bazar, Banglamotor, Shahbag, Panthapath, Dhanmondi, Green Road, and other areas of the capital. While the sudden rain brought relief to some, it also caused suffering for many.

Traffic slowed on several city roads, and office-goers and pedestrians struggled. Many took shelter in shops, bus stops, and under building awnings. Waterlogging in some areas created additional traffic jams.

The Meteorological Department said an extension of a low-pressure system is extending from the Ganges Basin in West Bengal to the northern Bay of Bengal. The seasonal monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the northern Bay, creating a favourable environment for rainfall in different parts of the country.

The forecast indicates that Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Barishal and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain with gusty winds and thunder. One or two places in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions may also see rainfall. Some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
