After voter registration, Tarique Rahman to visit Hadi’s grave

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will apply for voter registration on Saturday, December 27, after returning to the country. On the same day, he will visit the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi and later go to Pongu Hospital (National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation) to see those injured in the July mass uprising.
The information was disclosed on Wednesday, December 24, at an emergency press conference organised on the occasion of Tarique Rahman’s return to the country. The briefing was addressed by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
He said Tarique Rahman does not support any programme that may cause public suffering. He has already instructed expatriate leaders, activists and supporters not to gather at London’s Heathrow Airport on the day of his return.
Salahuddin Ahmed said Tarique Rahman will go directly from the airport to the hospital to see his critically ill mother, Khaleda Zia. He also wishes to visit the mausoleum of his father Ziaur Rahman and the grave of his brother. To avoid public inconvenience, he has chosen a public holiday for his return.
He further said that 20 medical camps will be set up at the venue, along with a six-bed field hospital equipped with doctors, medicines and ambulances, operating round the clock.
Salahuddin Ahmed added that on December 27, Tarique Rahman will complete all formalities related to his national identity card. After that, he will visit the grave of Shaheed Osman Hadi and, on the way, go to Pangu Hospital to meet those injured in the July uprising. Another programme will follow, though details have not yet been finalised.
He also said that on December 26, after Jummah prayers, Tarique Rahman will first visit the mausoleum of Shaheed Zia and then proceed to the National Martyrs’ Memorial.
