The medical board overseeing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s treatment has said a final decision has not yet been taken regarding taking her abroad. She will be transferred only if physicians deem her physically fit for travel.

Speaking at a press briefing on her current condition at Evercare Hospital on Saturday, December 6, BNP standing committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain conveyed the information.

He said that the air ambulance has been kept prepared, but no transfer will be made without medical approval. Dr Zahid added that Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23. Although efforts were initially made to take her abroad, the process has faced delays.

Explaining the reason behind the delay, Dr Zahid stated that technical complications arose in the air ambulance arranged under the initiative of the Emir of Qatar, causing it to miss its scheduled arrival. Additionally, at that time, the medical board opined that air travel would not be safe.

He further informed that treatment is ongoing under a team comprising both local and foreign specialists, including physicians from London and the United States, who remain involved in her treatment recommendations.

The BNP has urged the public not to spread rumours regarding Khaleda Zia’s health. All updates will be communicated directly through the medical board.

Dr Zahid said that complexities may arise due to altitude during long flights; therefore, the decision on travel will remain suspended until it is deemed completely safe.

Expressing hope, he said that “by the grace of Allah and the prayers of all, Begum Khaleda Zia will recover”.
