A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara area on Sunday afternoon, triggering widespread panic in the surrounding neighborhood.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a deafening noise as the aircraft went down, followed by a fire breaking out in a section of the school building. Initial reports indicate that the aircraft struck a classroom adjacent to the school’s canteen.

Shah Bulbul, Public Relations Officer of Milestone College, confirmed the incident and said, “A classroom in the school wing was destroyed on impact. It is still unclear whether any students were injured or killed.” He added that security forces have cordoned off the entire premises and even college authorities have not been granted access to the site.

Multiple teachers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the fire is yet to be brought under control and flames continue to engulf parts of the building. Fire service personnel are actively engaged in rescue efforts and are transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.

Authorities fear the number of casualties could be significant. Rescue operations are reportedly being hampered by the intensity of the fire and scattered aircraft debris.

Further details are awaited as emergency services continue to respond to the situation.
