Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) on Tuesday issued directives for heightened security at all airports nationwide following concerns over potential sabotage.

A letter sent from CAAB headquarters instructed airport authorities to implement extra precautionary measures.

This comes in the wake of a recent fire at cargo house of Shahjalal International Airport, which had already prompted increased security at airports across the country.

The letter emphasizes strict adherence to Key Performance Indicator (KPI) security protocols. Only authorized personnel and cleared passengers are to be allowed entry, while public access must be strictly controlled.

Security staff are required to maintain maximum presence and conduct random inspections at entry and exit points. Thorough screening of passengers, cabin baggage, cargo, and vehicles is mandatory.

Sensitive areas and perimeter walls must be patrolled regularly and all security equipment; including Explosive Detection Systems (EDS), Explosive Trace Detectors (ETD), metal detectors and CCTV, must be tested daily to ensure functionality.

Security personnel are to be briefed regularly and remain vigilant at all times, reporting any suspicious individuals, items or activities immediately to higher authorities.

The CCTV monitoring unit is to operate 24/7, observing suspicious activity and coordinating immediate response. Gas lines, electrical systems and other critical installations must be inspected to maintain fire safety, with fire protection systems kept active around the clock.

Muhammad Kausar Mahmud, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of CAAB, said, “Ensuring passenger safety is our top priority. All citizens are urged to stay alert and cooperate with security personnel. CAAB headquarters has issued directives to all airports to ensure these measures are implemented effectively.”
