Ali Riaz urges ‘yes’ vote in referendum to build discrimination-free Bangladesh
Professor Ali Riaz, special assistant to the chief adviser and chief coordinator of the referendum public awareness campaign, has urged people to vote ‘yes’ in the upcoming referendum to rebuild the country.
He said the decision on what kind of Bangladesh will be handed over to the next generation depends on the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ votes.
Ali Riaz made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon, January 14, at a divisional-level imam conference held at Abu Sayeed Stadium in Rangpur to promote the referendum and motivate voters.
He said a ‘yes’ vote would ensure a new and discrimination-free Bangladesh for the youth. Although the July Charter is written on paper, he said, its foundation is built on the blood of those martyred in the July movement, and implementing it requires public approval through the referendum.
He added that the referendum is not about voting for any individual or political party, and that a ‘yes’ vote would prevent any party from blocking the reform process. He also warned against the return of fascism and described the referendum as a vital tool to remain vigilant.
