All educational institutions to get committees to fight drugs, gambling

The Home Ministry has decided to form committees at all educational institutions across Bangladesh to prevent drug use and gambling, according to a ministry press release issued Thursday (September 24).

The release, signed by Home Ministry Public Relations Officer (Director) Foysal Hasan, said the decision was taken to strengthen efforts against drugs and gambling among students and within educational institutions.

However, the ministry did not provide details on the proposed committees’ composition, membership, responsibilities or scope of activities.

The decision comes after the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs identified drugs and gambling as major problems and recommended effective measures to curb them.

The recommendation was made at a meeting of the committee, chaired by its Chairman Zainul Abedin, at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
