All members of the National Human Rights Commission have resigned. It has been learned that they took this decision following the cancellation of the ordinance issued during the interim government.

Commission member Dr Nabila Idris confirmed the matter to the media on Monday afternoon, April 13. The members also sent an open letter after their resignations.

Earlier, on April 9, the National Human Rights Commission (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill was passed by voice vote in the National Parliament. The bill repealed the ordinance and reinstated the previous law of 2009, which will come into effect after the president's approval and gazette notification.

Outgoing commission member Noor Khan said although the government did not directly ask them to resign, they felt it was justified to step down given the situation.

Meanwhile, commission secretary Kudrat-e-Elahi said that with the ordinance repealed, the commission no longer remains functional under the previous structure. He said he had not yet seen the members' open letter.
