The Ministry of Education has taken an exceptional initiative to save electricity. On the instruction of the prime minister, all public and private universities across the country have been ordered closed from Monday, March 9.

The Ministry of Education issued a directive in this regard on Sunday, March 8.

The directive said saving electricity and energy at the national level is essential to address the global crisis. In this context, all universities will remain closed from March 9 until the dates already scheduled in their academic calendars for the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

University authorities have been given several instructions to conserve electricity. These include using natural daylight during the day instead of electric lighting, switching off unnecessary lights and fans, and using air conditioners at temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius or higher.

They have also been instructed to turn off all electrical equipment when leaving office rooms, avoid unnecessary lighting in corridors, staircases and washrooms, use energy-efficient devices and refrain from decorative lighting.

In addition, the directive called for limiting the use of vehicles. As part of implementing instructions from the Cabinet Division, the ministry asked all universities to take the necessary measures.
