Amir Hossain appointed state defence lawyer for Sheikh Hasina
Amir Hossain has been appointed by the International Crimes Tribunal as the state defence counsel for ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina in an enforced disappearance case. The appointment was made on Wednesday afternoon.
He previously served as a state defence lawyer for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
Meanwhile, lawyer Z I Khan Panna appeared before Tribunal-1 and sought unconditional apology on Wednesday around 12:45pm, declaring that he would not represent Sheikh Hasina in the disappearance case. The bench was led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumdar, with Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury as the other member.
Earlier, the tribunal expressed anger when Panna failed to appear despite initially showing interest in representing Hasina and announcing it on Facebook. The court ordered him to appear immediately. Within ten minutes, he appeared and sought unconditional apology, saying he would not represent her.
The tribunal later appointed Amir Hossain as state defence counsel for Sheikh Hasina in two disappearance cases.
