Amir Khasru set to become Finance Minister

The newly elected members of parliament of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which won the 13th National Assembly elections, have taken oath.

According to sources, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the party's standing committee and adviser to the chairman, is set to take charges of the Finance Ministry.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin administered their oath at the swearing-in hall of the National Assembly building at around 10:45am on Tuesday February 17. First, the elected MPs of the party, including BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, took the oath and later they signed the oath book.

As part of the process of forming the new government, the new cabinet members will take the oath at 4pm on the same day at the South Plaza of the National Parliament building.

Elected from Chattogram-11 constituency, Amir Khasru previously served as the Minister of Commerce in 2001 and held the post until March 25, 2004.

According to unofficial results, BNP won 209 seats out of 297 seats. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats, while the National Citizens Party (NCP) won six and independent candidates won seven seats.
