Animal sacrifices continues on second day of Eid-ul-Azha
Although the main day of Eid al-Adha has passed, the spirit of sacrifice and celebration continued across Bangladesh on the second day of the festival.
From Friday morning (May 29), sacrificial animal slaughter, meat processing and distribution activities were seen continuing in different parts of the capital, Dhaka, as well as across the country, keeping neighbourhoods busy with the familiar atmosphere of Eid.
Residents in various areas of the capital said many families traditionally choose the second day of Eid for performing Qurbani as part of long-standing family customs. Others prefer the day to avoid the heavy rush and shortage of skilled butchers commonly experienced on the first day of Eid.
Compared to the opening day, many families also found butchers and support workers more readily available on Friday, making the process more convenient and organized.
According to Islamic Shariah, Qurbani can be performed over three days — from the 10th to the 12th of Zilhajj until sunset. Those unable to offer sacrifices on the first day are permitted to do so on either of the following two days.
