A Dhaka court has shown former Law Minister Anisul Haque and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haque Inu arrested in connection with the murder of a youth protester.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order on Wednesday (July 23) following a petition by the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Yasir Arafat of Banani Police Station. Both political figures are now formally listed as accused in the case involving the death of 22-year-old Md. Shahjahan.

Shahjahan sustained bullet injuries during clashes at the Mohakhali flyover area under Banani Police Station on July 19 last year, amid protests against discrimination. He succumbed to his injuries on July 24 while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The murder case, initially filed by Shahjahan’s mother Sajeda Begum on December 18, 2024, at Banani Police Station, names Sheikh Hasina and 97 others. It alleges that top-level government and party figures orchestrated violence against demonstrators during the anti-discrimination movement.

Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, authorities arrested Anisul Haque from the Sadarghat area on August 13. Hasanul Haque Inu was detained by Detective Branch (DB) police on August 25 from a residence in Uttara.
