Anisul, Salman placed on remand in foreign exchange act case

A court in Dhaka today placed former law minister Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on a five-day remand in a case lodged under The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Arifur Rahman issued the order after police presented the two individuals in court, asking for their arrest in the case and a seven-day remand for questioning.

Sub-inspector Md Sajib Miah of New Market Police Station filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on September 13.

Anisul and Salman, two key figures from the former autocratic government of Sheikh Hasina, were arrested in the Sadarghat area on August 13 while attempting to escape the capital by water.

Police recovered USD 17,592 and 726 Singapore dollars from the possession of Anisul, while Salman F Rahman was carrying USD 12,624, 8,500 USD dirhams, 11,650 rials, 779 Singapore dollars, 150 British pounds, 1,332 euros, among other foreign currencies.
