Anisul-Qamrul-Salman among six shown arrested in new murder case
A Dhaka court has ordered six prominent figures, including former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Food Minister Kamrul Islam, and former Prime Minister’s Adviser Salman F Rahman, to be shown arrested in three separate murder cases linked to the July mass movement.
The others are former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam, and former Jatrabari Police Station OC Abul Hasan.
On Wednesday (August 27), investigating officers submitted petitions to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in connection with three murder cases—Rasel Mia, Imran Hasan, and Mehedi Hasan Pranto—who were killed in shootings during protests in Jatrabari last year.
The court granted the prosecution’s request after hearing.
Additional Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon represented the state in court.
Anisul, Salman, Palak, and Abul Hasan were shown arrested in the case over the murder of steel shop worker Russell Mia, who was shot dead during the July 19 protest at the Kutubkhali Pocket Gate area under Jatrabari Police Station last year.
Jahangir Alam was shown arrested in the case over the death of student Imran Hasan, who was killed on August 5 last year in indiscriminate firing by Awami League activists and police.
Kamrul Islam was shown arrested in the case over the murder of student Mehedi Hasan Pranto, who was killed on July 7 last year during a peaceful anti-discrimination procession at the Rayerbagh bus stand in Jatrabari.
